Since 1991, Habitat for Humanity Great Falls Area has been building homes and building memories in partnership with hardworking families. Through our Home ownership program, we sell homes to qualified families based upon their level of need, at a 0% interest rate, no down payment, and a set monthly mortgage payment of 30 years. Partner families must meet selection criteria and be willing to contribute 500 hours of sweat equity towards their new home.

If you are interested in applying for a Habitat Home, the first step is attending a Housing Workshop. Those who are interested must attend one workshop, where the Family Selection Committee will present an overview of the program, distribute applications and answer any questions. Contact our office for upcoming workshops.

Partner families are selected based upon three different components: inadequate current housing, a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity, and the ability to meet monthly mortgage payments of approximately $600.

You will be considered for a Habitat home if your present housing is not adequate, and if you are unable to obtain adequate housing through other conventional means. Lack of adequate housing may include problems with the present structure; water, electrical or sewage service systems; heating system; and/or a secure living environment for adults and children. The percentage of your monthly income that goes toward your current housing also helps to determine your level of need. You will be required to openly and fully discuss your financial situation with a Habitat interviewer.

Habitat Great Falls is looking to help low income families become homeowners and purchase an affordable home. We will help you to determine if this payment will jeopardize your ability to meet all other family financial obligations and expenses. Your family must have sufficient income to meet monthly mortgage payments of approximately $600, including taxes and insurance, as well as normal living expenses. We will consider all forms of income, including alimony, child support, public assistance, SSI/disability, etc. You do not have to have perfect credit, but you must show that you are committed to improving your financial situation.

Partnership is extremely important to the success of the Habitat for Humanity program. We build homes with our communities, local business, and home buyers. When selected, you become a Partner Family and are responsible for completing 500 hours of “sweat equity”. Hours can be accumulated with physical labor by assisting with the construction your own home and the homes of others as well as volunteering with the ReStore, Admin office and at various Habitat events. Friends and relatives are welcome to join in the work and contribute their time towards your sweat equity goal. In addition to your sweat equity hours, you must also be willing to act as an ambassador for Habitat Great Falls in your local community.
